Once you have completed your Job Ready Employment (JRE), the next step in the Job Ready Program (JRP) is the Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA). This stage tests your ability to perform at the required Australian industry standard in your nominated occupation. A successful JRWA outcome brings you closer to your final assessment and to securing a positive skills assessment for permanent residency visas such as subclass 189, 190, or 491.
Why JRWA matters for migration
The JRWA is not just about showing you can do your job — it is a key milestone in your migration pathway. By passing this stage, you demonstrate to Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) that:
- You can apply your skills and knowledge in an Australian workplace
- You can work safely, productively, and independently to industry standards
- You are ready to move to the Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA), which provides the skills assessment outcome required for permanent residency
Without a successful JRWA, you cannot progress to the final step of the JRP, meaning your migration plans may stall.
Eligibility for JRWA
To be invited for the JRWA, you must have:
- Completed at least six months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) employment since your JRE start date
- Submitted an Employment Confirmation Form to TRA
- Lodged your Skills Progress Report (SPR) and Employment Verification Reports (EVRs)
- Employment arrangements verified and approved by TRA
What happens during the assessment
A TRA-approved assessor from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will:
- Visit your workplace and review your tasks, tools, and environment
- Conduct an interview to assess your technical knowledge
- Observe you performing practical tasks relevant to your occupation
- Assess your ability to communicate, solve problems, follow safety requirements, and work effectively with others
The outcome will be one of two results: Job Ready or Not Yet Job Ready.
Fees and timelines
- JRWA fee: AUD $2,845
- If unsuccessful, you may request a review or apply for a subsequent JRWA after addressing feedback.
Outcomes
- Successful JRWA: You are officially “Job Ready” and eligible to move on to the Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA).
- Unsuccessful JRWA: You will receive feedback on the areas you need to improve before reapplying.
