For many international graduates in Australia, the Job Ready Program (JRP) is the pathway to a successful skills assessment and, ultimately, permanent residency. Managed by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA), the JRP helps graduates show that their qualifications and work experience meet Australian industry standards.
The program begins with a Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA), which confirms that your Australian qualification is valid and relevant. From there, you move through each stage of the JRP until you achieve the final skills assessment outcome required for skilled migration visas.
Why the JRP matters for migration
The JRP is essential if you want to:
- Apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) and gain post-study work rights
- Obtain a positive skills assessment recognised by the Department of Home Affairs
- Build 12 months of approved work experience in your nominated occupation
- Apply for permanent skilled visas such as subclass 189, 190, or 491
Without completing the JRP, you cannot secure the skills assessment outcome that is necessary for permanent residency.
Learn more about each stage
We have prepared detailed blogs explaining each step of the Job Ready Program to help you understand the requirements and how they connect to your migration goals:
- Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA)
- Job Ready Employment (JRE)
- Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA)
- Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA)
These resources will guide you through the process, stage by stage, so you know what to expect at every step of your migration journey.
How the program works
The JRP is made up of four key stages:
- Provisional Skills Assessment (PSA) – confirms your qualification and eligibility
- Job Ready Employment (JRE) – requires 12 months of relevant paid work experience
- Job Ready Workplace Assessment (JRWA) – tests your skills and performance in the workplace
- Job Ready Final Assessment (JRFA) – issues the official skills assessment outcome letter
Each stage must be completed in order, and together they provide a structured pathway from graduate status to permanent residency eligibility.
